Environmental Information
Boori is a specialist nursery furniture manufacturer as opposed to many in the industry who simply add cots and cot-beds to their existing range of adult furniture. We have a clearly defined policy to use sustainable and renewable resources wherever possible and, with the exception of our white painted cabinet products (generally not cots or cot-beds) which include some man-made materials for technical reasons, we use a single type of timber for construction of the Boori and King Parrot nursery furniture ranges.
The timber we use is Arakaria (botanical name - Araucaria cunninghamii) from South-east Queensland plantations, and we now manufacture in Shanghai. Arakaria is almost unique to Australia and the plantations are owned and strictly controlled by the Queensland Government - Department of Primary Industries. The forests are sustainably managed, and have been approved by PEFC*, as an alternative to FSC certification. PEFC certification is accepted in the UK and will soon be accepted in other EC countries. Our supplier has chain of custody certification (AS4707 - Int.) and we are able to trace every production batch to the supply point.
Our timber supplier comments: - "Arakaria is grown in ISO 14001 accredited forests - which means a renewable resource offering sustainability and continuity of supply from generation to generation".
*PEFC = Pan European Forestry Commission (Programme for Endorsement of Forestry Certification)
Other points that relate to safety and general business philosophy
Boori is the brand leader in nursery furniture in Australia where they have an appreciation for natural products, and we are growing in the UK and Ireland by the same token.
